Technique: Intaglio engraving
Subject: Probably Mars carrying a spear and a trophy of arms
Shape: Oval stone in a pendant mount

A translucent reddish-orange carnelian intaglio pendant engraved with a standing helmeted figure.
The figure holds a long spear in front and carries what appears to be a trophy of captured arms behind the shoulder. Fine incised lines define the helmet, torso and legs, with a short ground line beneath the feet.
The attributes and pose suggest Mars, the Roman god of war.
The silver mount surrounding the stone is corroded and partially missing, while a suspension fitting survives at the top.
