透明感のある褐色のガラス地に、緑・黄・白・赤系の色彩を組み合わせた放射状の眼文を配したガラス珠。
この特徴的な放射線円文様を持つガラス珠は、8〜10世紀の北欧、ヴァイキング時代の遺跡から出土しています。西アジアから北欧へと広がる交易や、各地におけるガラス工芸の交流を考えるうえでも興味深い一群です。
本品は、深井晋司・高橋敏『ペルシアの瑠璃玉』73ページに掲載された放射線円文様の珠と、形態・色彩・装飾に共通点が見られます。
ただし、北欧での出土は必ずしも北欧での製作を意味するものではなく、本品の製作地と年代は類例に基づく推定です。

A translucent brown glass bead decorated with multicolored radiating eye motifs in green, yellow, white and reddish tones.
Beads featuring related radiating eye patterns are known from Viking Age archaeological contexts in Scandinavia. Their distribution provides evidence of the exchange of glass objects and decorative traditions across northern Europe and beyond.
A closely related example is illustrated in Persian Glass Beads by Shinji Fukai and Satoshi Takahashi, p. 73. The attribution and date of the present bead remain provisional.
