赤褐色と乳白色の細かな層が幾重にも重なる縞瑪瑙を用いた、薄く扁平なビーズです。

正面では天然の縞が幾重ものV字・山形を描き、強い幾何学的な印象を生み出しています。

この文様は後から施された装飾ではなく、縞瑪瑙そのものがもつ天然の層です。石の縞が正面に美しく現れる部分を選び、天然の模様そのものを意匠として生かすように切り出したと考えられます。

バクトリアでは古くから縞瑪瑙を用いた幾何学形のビーズが知られており、本品もその文化圏の作例と推定しています。ただし、正確な出土地は不明です。

A thin, flat banded agate bead attributed to ancient Bactria.

Alternating reddish-brown and milky-white natural layers form a striking sequence of V-shaped, or chevron-like, patterns across the principal face.

The pattern is not an applied decoration but derives from the natural structure of the agate itself. The stone appears to have been carefully selected, oriented, and shaped to transform its internal banding into a strong geometric design.

Geometric beads fashioned from banded agate are known from ancient Bactria and neighboring regions. The attribution of this example to Bactria is tentative; its exact archaeological provenance is unknown.
